Mary Grace BOYES FOWLER
It would seem that Mary Grace was heavily involved in the political scene in Plymouth. The following reports appeared in the Western Morning News in 1923, while Mary was probably still living at 7 Elliot Street:
As may be seen from these articles, she was involved with the Plymouth branch of the Primrose League, of which Lady Astor was also a member. The League was an organisation for spreading Conservative principles in Great Britain. It was founded in 1882 and active until the mid-1990s.
Mary and Lady Astor were obviously acquainted, which could suggest that Lady Astor may have been an occasional (or frequent?) visitor to 7 Elliot Street, especially as Lord and Lady Astor lived just around the corner at 3 Elliot Terrace!
